Senior Project Controls Manager
About the Role
Work under the direction of the Project Manager to support the planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, quality control, safety, and coordination of subcontractors and internal technical and support staff.
- Work with project team members to develop the project cost breakdown structure and baseline budget.
- Develop and implement effective cost control procedures to track project expenses and analyze cost variances.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to evaluate cost-saving options and recommend value-added changes to optimize project costs.
- Establish methods to measure project progress and utilize project performance data to assess cost performance.
- Implement integrated project controls methodologies to effectively align cost and schedule management efforts.
- Communicate project status, cost performance, and schedule updates to stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Attend project meetings with stakeholders to track and resolve cost and schedule management issues.
- Provide all necessary documents, information, and monthly reports to the client as needed.
- Maintain financial reports for individual project subtasks and provide roll-up summary reports.
- Review funding availability and procurement documentation to ensure conformance to approved project budgets.
- Manage change order processes and assess the impact of proposed changes on project costs and schedules.
- Participate in the development of project estimates, budgets, forecasts, estimates to complete, and cost trends.
- Support PMIS system administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent. Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., PMI-SP, AACE CCP/CEP) are a plus.
- 10 years of combined field and office project controls experience on large-scale projects.
- Extensive knowledge of cost estimating methodologies, cost control techniques, and schedule management best practices.
Skills
- Reporting & BI Tools: Demonstrated experience developing dashboards and reports in Microsoft Power BI and/or Tableau. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
- PMIS: Experience working with and/or administering Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) such as Oracle Primavera Unifier, e-Builder, Procore, or similar platforms.
- Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the ability to present clearly to stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Work Style: Self-starter who thrives in a hybrid work environment and can manage competing priorities with minimal supervision. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in cost management software, project management tools, and relevant industry standards.
- Understanding of financial principles and budgeting practices.
- Familiarity with project scheduling preferred.
- Confident self-starter with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment.
- Attention to detail and organization while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled at building and sustaining relationships with all stakeholders.
