As a Senior Project Architect in New York City, you’ll lead transformative design projects that positively impact communities. You’ll play a key part in delivering complex architecture projects from concept through construction, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across Jacobs to bring together design, technical excellence, digital innovation, and project leadership. This role offers the opportunity to influence project vision, mentor emerging professionals, and shape the built environment in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design and technical development from early concept through construction documentation and administration, including investigations, studies, analysis, and specification development.
  • Serve as a project architect on medium to large, complex architectural projects across the infrastructure and transportation market.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including architecture, engineering, planning, interiors, and specialty consultants.
  • Develop and review detailed drawing sets, specifications, building systems, and code compliance documentation.
  • Facilitate client presentations, design reviews, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Oversee project schedules, deliverables, and quality standards to ensure alignment with scope and client expectations.
  • Mentor and guide junior architects and designers, fostering a collaborative project environment.
  • Support design strategy, sustainability goals, and digital delivery workflows (BIM/Revit).
  • Partner with project managers to manage design risk, resolve technical challenges, and ensure successful execution.
  • Perform Construction Administration activities, including review of shop drawings, Requests for Information (RFIs), site visits, and change orders.
  • Conduct quality control and assurance reviews.
  • Perform code evaluation, analysis, and conformance including IBC, NFPA, Uniform Code Provisions for Rail Stations, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive architectural experience, including experience leading complex projects.
  • Experience with infrastructure and transportation projects including stations and related facilities is required.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, and technical detailing.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and Microsoft Office Suite workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong presentation and client-facing skills both verbal and visual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Architect license (U.S.) required or ability to obtain.
  • Experience delivering projects within the New York metropolitan area.
  • Strong design sensibility combined with technical expertise.
  • Experience with sustainable design frameworks (LEED, WELL, Envision, etc.).
  • Familiarity with digital design tools such as Rhino, Enscape, Navisworks, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Bentley tools such as Open Buildings and ProjectWise.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor emerging professionals.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $151,500.00 to $170,300.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Schedule

This role follows a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
