Senior Production Systems Engineer

About the role

BPX Energy is seeking a Senior Production Systems Engineer to join our team and help revolutionize our US onshore operations. The ideal candidate will partner with Operations, Optimization, Interventions, and other teams to identify opportunities for improvement and develop innovative solutions that leverage the power of data.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Operations, Optimization, Interventions, and other teams to identify opportunities for improvement and develop innovative solutions that leverage the power of data
• Design, develop, and deploy robust applications using Python, SQL, and Snowflake within the AWS cloud environment
• Champion the adoption of best practices for software development, including version control, code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
• Collaborate with Technology and Production as a product owner to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing support of in-house solutions
• Build intuitive and insightful reporting tools and dashboards using Power BI, Streamlit, and/or other Python web frameworks to empower data-driven decision-making
• Leverage AI tools like Claude Code and create AI agents to facilitate analysis and outcomes

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 7+ years experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly related to Petroleum Engineering, preferred
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, especially for data-intensive applications
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Dagster+
• Experience developing in Palantir a plus

Pay & Benefits

Compensation & Benefits: How much do we pay (Base)? $165,000-$194,000

Travel Requirement

Up to 10% travel should be expected with this role
