About the role

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a Senior Product Owner to join the Berxi team in Boston. This role serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and Agile development teams, ensuring that product investments deliver measurable value and support strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with architecture, UX, Data, business, and engineering teams to modernize digital platforms and customer-facing capabilities.
  • Support the evolution of API-first and microservices-based architectures that improve scalability, maintainability, and speed to market.
  • Develop a strong understanding of backend systems, integration patterns, APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Prioritize digital capabilities that enhance customer, agent, and employee experiences while maintaining alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Evaluate the business impact of UX and digital design decisions across the broader policy administration and insurance ecosystem.
  • Analyze existing policy administration processes, workflows, integrations, and data structures.
  • Identify gaps between legacy and target policy administration platforms and recommend practical solutions.
  • Evaluate the impacts of system changes on upstream and downstream applications.
  • Aid in defining migration strategies, business rules, and conversion requirements.
  • Document system interfaces and integration requirements.
  • Collaborate with architecture and development teams to define API, batch, event-driven, and microservices-based integration requirements.
  • Develop and review test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
  • Support System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and conversion testing.
  • Build trusted relationships with executive leadership, business partners, technology teams, vendors, and delivery partners.
  • Effectively manage stakeholder expectations through clear communication, prioritization, and transparent decision-making.
  • Facilitate discussions to resolve competing priorities and achieve alignment across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Present product strategies, roadmap updates, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Support the product manager to define the product vision and roadmap.
  • Analyze customer feedback, regulatory requirements, and performance metrics to inform product decisions.
  • Own and maintain product backlogs, ensuring priorities align with business value and strategic objectives.
  • Translate business requirements into epics, features, and user stories.
  • Partner with Agile teams to support sprint planning, backlog refinement, testing, and release activities.
  • Define success metrics and monitor outcomes to ensure delivered solutions achieve intended business results.
  • Participate in sprint demos and sign-off feature acceptance.
  • Drive continuous improvement across product management and delivery processes.

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Insurance, or related field.
  • 15+ years of Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst, or related experience.
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty insurance industry experience.
  • Proficiency with Atlassian product suite (Jira, Confluence).
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting a policy administration system implementation, migration, or modernization initiative.
  • Strong understanding of insurance policy lifecycle, underwriting, rating, quoting, policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, and servicing processes.
  • Experience managing large-scale cross-functional initiatives involving business and technology teams.
  • Strong understanding of backend systems, APIs, integrations, middleware, event-driven integrations, and microservices architecture.
  • Ability to engage in technical discussions with engineers, architects, and platform teams.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into clear technical requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transformation environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations and influence decision-making at multiple organizational levels.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Boston, MA is $120,000 to $180,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
