Senior Product Manager – Middle Back Office Technology Platforms
Overview
The D. E. Shaw group seeks a senior product manager to lead the platforms that run the firm’s trade lifecycle, from execution through settlement, within its Middle and Back Office Technology (MBOT) team. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining systems that underpin trade operations, asset servicing, securities reference data, and corporate actions, working closely with both Middle Office and investment professionals. The role offers the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of critical technology platforms and drive impactful improvements across the firm’s operational landscape.
What You'll Do Day-to-Day
- Own the product strategy and roadmap for platforms spanning trade lifecycle management, securities reference data, asset servicing, corporate actions, and controls.
- Serve as the senior product partner to Middle Office leadership, making prioritization and build-vs-buy decisions that improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Run the full product lifecycle: discovery, prototyping, prioritization, delivery, and user adoption.
- Translate business needs into clear deliverables for software developers and QA engineers, and partner across Investment, Operations, Accounting, Treasury, and Technology to align workflows to a shared platform strategy.
- Define and track success metrics—efficiency gains, error and risk reduction, adoption—and use them to guide prioritization.
- Identify where automation and AI-enabled capabilities can streamline trade-operations and data workflows, and partner with engineering to deliver them.
Who We're Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least seven years of product or technology management experience in investment management, trading operations, or financial technology.
- Deep understanding of trade lifecycle management, front and middle office workflows, and reference data systems.
- Experience delivering complex technical solutions with software development teams in a fast-paced financial environment, leading multiple concurrent initiatives independently.
- Keen analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional initiatives from inception to completion.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; proven ability to influence partners across investment, operations, and technology domains.
- High professional integrity and discretion with sensitive business and client information.
- Familiarity with investment management systems, regulatory workflows, databases, and languages such as Python, Java, or C# is a plus.
