About the role
The Senior Product Manager - Instant Payments will shape the future of real-time payments and lead the strategy for an evolving instant payments portfolio. Key responsibilities include defining product vision, roadmaps, and investment priorities, leading market research and customer discovery, and collaborating with various teams to deliver complex financial technology solutions.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute product strategy and vision for the instant payments portfolio
- Lead market research, competitive analysis, customer discovery, and validation activities
- Develop, maintain, and communicate product roadmaps
- Own the product lifecycle from concept to launch and continuous optimization
- Partner with Architecture, Engineering, Technical Product Owners, and Product Leadership
- Evaluate product opportunities, develop business cases, and prioritize investments
- Monitor market trends, pricing strategies, competitive activity, and business outcomes
- Collaborate with Product Marketing to develop product positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategies
- Support strategic customer, partner, and industry engagements
- Represent the organization at conferences and industry forums
Requirements
- 6+ years of product management experience focused on instant payments, real-time payments, faster payments, digital payments, or closely related payment technologies
- Demonstrated experience supporting or implementing the FedNow Service and/or RTP Network
- Strong ownership of product strategy, roadmap development, prioritization, and end-to-end product lifecycle management
- Deep understanding of real-time payment environments, including 24/7/365 transaction operations, settlement processes, payment limits, liquidity considerations, and operational requirements
- Strong knowledge of FedNow capabilities and operational requirements as well as RTP functionality and network rules
- Experience working with ISO 20022 messaging standards, including pain.001, pacs.008, pacs.002, pain.013, and pain.014
- Understanding of fraud prevention in irrevocable payment environments, operational resilience, risk management, and real-time settlement
- Experience working closely with engineering, architecture, and technology teams to deliver complex financial technology products
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with experience conducting market research, developing business cases, and evaluating product investments
- Experience within financial services, banking, fintech, payments technology, or a related industry
- Ability to communicate complex payment concepts and strategic recommendations effectively to customers, executives, internal stakeholders, and industry audiences
- Strong collaboration, influence, prioritization, and stakeholder-management skills
Preferred
- 10+ years of overall professional experience
- Community bank or credit union experience
- Pragmatic Institute Certification Level II or higher
- Experience with Aha! or comparable product management platforms
