Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute product strategy plans, including three-year life-cycle plans for a specific product category that align with the company’s selling tactics, distribution channels, strategy, and financial goals.
  • Ensure timely execution of marketing plans and effectively communicate critical information.
  • Supply market and product data, analysis, and recommendations as needed.
  • Understand competitive product lines and compare product features and benefits to create compelling selling stories.
  • Utilize tactical business drivers to achieve financial objectives.
  • Develop short- and long-term product plans designed to deliver growth and profit performance aligned with organizational goals.
  • Prepare and achieve annual plans for each major product line.
  • Provide strategic, specific, and targeted recommendations for growth as the recognized expert in the competitive environment, internal capabilities, and potential new capabilities.
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities for product improvements, line additions, new markets, improved merchandising, promotions, and other growth prospects.
  • Maintain a product line portfolio strategy, including a three-year product life-cycle plan with new product launches, modifications, promotions, and end-of-life discontinuations.
  • Provide direction and ensure timely execution of marketing plans, including product launches, modifications, and promotions to drive sales.
  • Display leadership qualities when working with cross-functional teams and internal departments to foster collaboration.
  • Mentor less experienced Product Management personnel.
  • Serve as a market and end-user expert through interactions with sales teams, distributors, and end users via various venues.
  • Collect and maintain market information and conduct market research as necessary.
  • Spend 10% of time in the field documenting customer needs.
  • Serve as the product expert on performance, functionality, pricing, packaging, merchandising, and value propositions for internal and external customers.
  • Provide product-related assistance to other areas of the company as needed.
  • Provide monthly narratives on major product line performance, focusing on lines significantly above or below plan, along with corrective actions and growth recommendations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related technical field and seven years of relevant experience in consumer goods product management, or a minimum of three years in product management combined with seven years of other relevant business experience.
  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with complex financial calculations, multiple market research methodologies, and implementation of marketing activities such as PR, advertising, promotions, POP, packaging, strategic planning with pricing strategy, brand positioning, and competitive analysis.
  • Ability to deliver objectives with limited guidance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and justifying growth opportunities, launching new product lines, and working within a stage-gate development process.
  • Ability to be an effective team player, take initiative, and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and business plans to achieve financial objectives.

Pay

This role has an annual salary range of $107,000 - $134,000. Actual compensation is influenced by skills, experience, and location.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
