Senior Product Designer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to lead the consumer app for 9amHealth, a virtual specialty care platform focusing on managing high-cost chronic conditions. This role involves owning the entire consumer app, crafting engaging and clinically safe experiences, and integrating with our custom Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Responsibilities

• Own the consumer app end-to-end, including flows, surfaces, interaction patterns, and visual system.
• Craft and ensure high-quality designs that meet clinical safety standards and member needs.
• Design daily engagement loops to build habit-forming experiences that drive sustained return behavior.
• Move from concept to working prototype quickly, using modern design tools as needed.
• Stay close to members through research to inform design decisions and improve member journeys.
• Build and maintain the design system used by the product team.
• Collaborate with clinicians, coaches, and care coordinators to optimize the consumer experience without increasing their workload.
• Make informed trade-offs between member clarity, clinician workload, and business economics.

Requirements

A successful candidate should have:

• Experience owning a consumer product from conception to launch.
• A proven track record of delivering impactful design solutions that influence key metrics like activation rate, return frequency, and sustained engagement.
• A strong visual and interaction design sensibility, evidenced by authored work that demonstrates a unique style and approach.
• The ability to articulate design decisions and justify trade-offs, even in ambiguous situations.
• A deep understanding of how to build daily habits without relying on manipulative loops, and a nuanced grasp of forgiveness mechanics, intrinsic motivation design, and progress framing.
• Strong research skills and the ability to translate findings into actionable design decisions.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment with limited information, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
• Effective written communication skills to defend design choices and communicate complex ideas clearly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Visual Arts, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in product design, preferably in the digital health space.
• Experience with AI-assisted design tools and a willingness to experiment with them.
• Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMRs) and familiarity with building consumer-facing apps on top of operational systems.
