Senior Producer, Remote (Independent News / Digital Video)

About the role

The outlet is an independent news source known for on-the-ground reporting across America. They are seeking a Senior Producer to manage their expanding volume of YouTube and social video content and lead a growing team.

Responsibilities

• Assigning, overseeing, and organizing video edits for producers and editors with quick turnaround to meet digital news demands
• Reviewing edits to identify necessary re-cuts: restructuring to hook viewers earlier, cutting extraneous footage, flagging needs for subtitles, additional footage, images, or sound bites
• Crafting compelling headlines for YouTube videos and creating video thumbnails; strong headline writing and graphic design skills required
• Producing on-the-ground livestreams including headlines, thumbnails, story notes for reporters, and breaking news updates during live coverage
• Writing Substack posts based on YouTube and social video content
• Working with reporters to plan reporting trips: choosing stories, identifying events and action to cover, and helping book activists and community members for interviews
• Serving as point person for all contributors and developing ideas for non-field content including shows, video series, and debates, and producing that content
• Going on-air and producing/editing videos as needed during busy news cycles

Qualifications

• 4-5 years of production experience preferred
• Excellent news judgment and instincts for identifying the story and the headline
• Digitally savvy with strong instincts for what drives YouTube and social media engagement
• Strong investigative instincts for vetting credibility of stories, sources, and documents
• Fast-moving producer and editor who can turn content around quickly
• Able to multitask across different assignments and edits simultaneously
• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly direct reporters, producers, editors, and camera operators
• Strong writing and graphic design skills

$80,000-$85,000/yr
