About the role
The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. This position is based in New York and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week.
Responsibilities
- Lead coverage of a group of hybrid video correspondents, in close partnership with regional editors and colleagues in Video.
- Devise new approaches to digital video storytelling both on and off platform.
- Manage a group of video journalists working with correspondents in the field.
- Drive story development and oversee scripting and editing.
- Assign, vet and drive video story pitches and publication.
- Lift our coverage of major storylines by working across the team to create a playbook for how to cover a region or beat in video.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
- The role reports to the Deputy International Editor for visuals.
Qualifications
- 8+ years experience producing news video journalism for digital or broadcast news.
- Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
- Broad knowledge of current events and news.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to supervise other video journalists and schedules, direct video correspondents.
- Proven track record in managing video journalists.
- Proven hands-on experience in the trenches of production, including editing, shooting and field production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience covering international news.
- Deep curiosity about video habits and users and platforms.
- Able to meet and make quick decisions under deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news environment.
- Record of deploying teams of journalists in challenging field assignments.
- High creative standards and a drive to push work to its best possible form.
