Job Scope

The Senior Procurement Manager of Central Procurement will manage a team of buyers with expertise in consumables, castings, extrusions, and raw metals. They will drive the implementation of long-term agreements across the supply base, including for suppliers providing complex machining. This role involves managing a team of buyers, subject matter experts, and subcontractors, and ensuring robust negotiations and contract management.

Responsibilities

  • Establish robust processes that comply with DCMA, FAR, DFAR, CPSR requirements.
  • Identify critical suppliers and establish long-term agreements where it makes business sense.
  • Ensure robust negotiations and achieve best value.
  • Seek continuous improvements in work instructions, procedures, and policies.
  • Improve the process for supplier onboarding, including risk assignment and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain continuous improvement in supplier performance.
  • Achieve cost reduction and cost avoidance goals.
  • Ensure appropriate selection, engagement, negotiation, documentation, award, management, escalation, and problem resolution with complex machining and processing suppliers.
  • Manage the team's continuous improvement through the effective use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure the backlog of purchase requests meets established targets.
  • Ensure robust negotiations and best value with complex machining and processing suppliers.

Skills and Requirements

  • A positive and collaborative professional personality with a can-do attitude and sense of urgency.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience, including 5+ years as a people-manager in a purchasing function. Alternatively, a master’s degree or higher, and 5 years of experience and 3+ years as a people manager in a purchasing function.
  • Experience with purchasing in Aerospace or Defense.
  • SAP experience.
  • Experience managing teams with KPIs/metrics.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand machining equipment, and experience purchasing complex machined goods and related processes.
  • Strong contracts negotiation expertise, including complex negotiations and significant cost savings.
  • Excellent coaching skills with examples of success.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including cost and price analysis techniques.
  • A complex problem-solver with the ability to make timely difficult decisions, sometimes with imperfect data.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • DFAR/FAR experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience developing and managing to KPIs.
  • High emotional intelligence.
  • Expert Complex Problem-Solver.

Work Environment

  • On-site full-time
  • Medium-to-large office environment
  • Fast-paced office environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Exposure to a combination of normal office type environments
  • May need to enter other warehouse or production environments to view materials or processes
