The primary purpose of the Senior Processing Assistant position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Allied Health (Laboratory and Pharmacy) division of the Durham County Department of Public Health.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Greeting guests and monitoring telephone calls.
- Maintaining employee training files and related documentation.
- Maintaining the inventory through the Kanban system and placing laboratory orders.
- Maintaining the division's calendar.
- Compiling statistical data and creating reports.
- Scheduling and maintaining accurate laboratory calibration records and reports.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Independent functioning with excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
- Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook).
- Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.
- Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials.
- Significant knowledge of accounting procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment.
- Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services.
- Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations.
- Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations.
- Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data.
- Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

- All DCoDPH employees are considered healthcare personnel (HCP) working in a health care setting with the potential for exposure to patients and/or infectious materials and, therefore, are required to comply and provide documented proof of the following:
- Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) vaccination/immunity
- Varicella-Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox) vaccination/immunity
- Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
- Tuberculosis (TB) baseline screening within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment
- Hepatitis B vaccination/immunity – only required for DCoDPH employees with potential Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposures.
- Identified DCoDPH HCP with potential Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposure have an additional requirement for the Hepatitis B vaccination.
