Responsibilities
- Assist in providing direction to the site process team including Process Engineers, Process Technicians, and mold setters.
- Lead injection molding related continuous improvement initiatives, including cycle times, scrap, quality, and material cost reduction.
- Develop and execute plans for injection molding process improvement with specific areas of accountability.
- Provide support on new product launch tooling, offering manufacturing input for development of new processes and improvements to existing processes and tooling.
- Follow established action plans for processes out of range.
- Work with Tooling Manager for all tool repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain documentation closely following necessary timelines on specific projects.
- Enforce safety rules daily and actively intervene to correct recognized unsafe actions and conditions.
- Complete employee development plans, organize, communicate, and motivate employees.
- Prioritize own workday schedule.
- Work closely with the site Technical Manager to develop appropriate training material for the plant's operations.
- Manage projects including new equipment justification, selection, and installation; development of new manufacturing methods; machine utilization studies; and new tooling qualifications.
- Responsible for new tool design and development in conjunction with the tooling process engineer.
- Act as a root cause problem solver using logical methodology and data-driven decision making.
- Develop a training program for process technicians and mold changers.
- Lead cycle time improvements, mold change time reductions, and decreased process troubleshooting time.
- Apply working knowledge of tooling and the requirements of a successful tool/process combination; understand the YFAI tool prove out process.
- Work with cross-functional team members to identify capital improvement opportunities and develop justification.
- Write appropriation requests, follow them through the approval process, and assist in implementation.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s level degree, preferably in Plastics, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5-7 years minimum experience with injection molding process.
- 5-9 years minimum experience within the automotive industry.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.
- Analytical problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional understanding of injection molding processes.
- Exceptional understanding and experience performing mold change requirements; experience using SMED methods.
- Extensive hands-on experience with injection molding equipment, robotics, and auxiliary equipment.
- Proven mechanical aptitude for problem solving.
- Proven process and tooling engineering excellence in the automotive industry.
Qualifications
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
- RJG Master Molder I and II preferred.
