Senior Process Engineer
About the role
Join PM Group’s growing Philadelphia-area team in Conshohocken, PA, delivering cutting-edge projects for Pharmaceutical, Biologics, and Cell & Gene Therapy manufacturing facilities—from feasibility through qualification—for both local and international clients. This senior-level position blends client interaction with deep technical process design, mentoring junior engineers while being mentored by more senior team members. Projects span feasibility studies, conceptual and schematic design, construction documentation, and construction administration, primarily in the life-science sector.
Responsibilities
- Lead designs from feasibility and concept stages, presenting process options to clients and optimizing selected designs.
- Perform detailed engineering, including preparation of process and clean utility calculations, drawings, and reports, both directly and through supervision of other engineers.
- Apply strong understanding of GMP facility requirements: material and personnel flows, clean room design, compendial water requirements, and impacts of open versus closed processing.
- Resolve process design challenges for biopharmaceutical projects, such as selecting Water for Injection generation and distribution philosophies, designing flexible GMP single-use facilities, and developing expansion strategies for facility growth.
- Coordinate with PM Group’s disciplines, offices, and external consultants.
- Develop Mass Balance, PFD, and P&ID for biopharmaceutical unit operations (e.g., bioreactors, chromatography, fill-finish).
- Design clean utility systems, including generation and distribution of purified water, WFI, clean steam, and process gases.
- Specify process equipment for both stainless steel and single-use systems.
- Present PM Group’s process engineering capabilities to potential clients in support of proposals.
- Travel as required for design workshops, HAZOPs, GMP reviews, and other project needs.
- Contribute to special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 7+ years of process engineering experience in a design firm, preferably in Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, or Cell & Gene Therapy sectors.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Ability to develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Professional Engineering (PE) licensure strongly preferred.
- Self-starter with confidence in coordinating the efforts of others.
- Strong communication skills for leading technical reviews with clients and suppliers.
- Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments preferred.
- Willingness to travel as needed for client and project development.
