About the role

The Associate Process Engineer will support the monitoring, troubleshooting, and reporting of high-volume manufacturing processes in a safe, environmentally sound, and economic manner. This role involves investigating, designing, and conducting projects aimed at continuous improvement and supporting new product development for high-purity chemicals used in advanced integrated circuit nodes.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily production for high-volume manufacturing processes and document procedures for process of record.
  • Update work instructions, verify batch records, and ensure documentation compliance.
  • Support and participate in environmental, safety, health, and quality programs, including conducting hazard assessments (OHSAS, Environmental Assessments).
  • Investigate nonconforming materials, report findings to internal MRB, and process related paperwork.
  • Provide problem-solving expertise for technical issues across various engineering projects.
  • Participate in customer meetings, audits, and address customer complaints using 8D or customer-specific formats.
  • Conduct and document trend review investigations and analyze statistical process control performance, including out-of-control (OOC) events and trend alerts using tools like Excel and JMP.
  • Lead process engineering development for ultrapure solvents (UPS), focusing on advanced purification techniques such as nano-filtration and distillation.
  • Manage projects from pilot scale through high-volume manufacturing (HVM), ensuring smooth transitions and scalability.
  • Conduct shelf-life studies on new or existing products and prepare technical reports.
  • Prepare Management of Change (MOC) documents and generate Engineering Change Notices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business/sales, procurement, engineering, manufacturing, R&D) to align raw materials and sourcing strategies with process control and statistical quality control (PCS/SQC) objectives.
  • Establish and document specifications for next-generation product packaging, evaluating materials of construction and their impact on finished product quality.
  • Coordinate with customers and suppliers to develop and implement mutually beneficial Process Technology roadmaps.
  • Design and conduct experiments (DOE) to understand the effects of raw materials and process variables on finished product quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust process control technologies for measurable process and analytical chemical parameters, both in-house and at supplier locations.
  • Research and implement advanced process technologies such as filtration, distillation, ion exchange, and in-situ metrology.
  • Plan and execute projects as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (advanced degree preferred) with at least 9 years of experience in high-volume chemical manufacturing, purification processes, engineering, scale-up, and production roles.
  • Other engineering disciplines considered based on experience with technology development and manufacturing of ultrapure, electronic-grade chemicals.
  • Demonstrated hands-on contributions to process management and scale-up of new products.
  • Subject matter expertise in process simulation, pilot production, and advanced purification techniques (distillation, filtration).
  • Strong engineering skills with a thorough understanding of Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), problem-solving techniques, and statistical methods.
  • Ability to document engineering projects and experimental designs in a structured, disciplined manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong project management background to ensure successful execution, milestone achievement, and objective fulfillment.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and capable of addressing complex problems with logical solutions while aligning with team and organizational goals.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
  • Clear and strategic thinker capable of independently pursuing goals while ensuring alignment with broader strategies.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring candidates to pass a post-offer drug screening. The role demands constant alertness and safe work practices.

This role is based at our Mesa, AZ facility. Fujifilm has six U.S. manufacturing and Research & Development facilities in Mesa, Arizona; Castroville, California; Hollister, California; Carrollton, Texas; and North Kingstown, Rhode Island—each offering unique local experiences.
