Senior Process Controls Engineer (PC-04)
About the role
The Senior Process Controls Engineer leads programming, control architecture, and system optimization. Coordinates across engineering, IT, and operations. Defines control system structure, designs and configures logic templates, and supports startup and plant handover readiness. This role aligns Reliable Controls' internal project execution standards with external benchmarks and may guide or lead junior staff. Domestic and international travel to client sites and project locations is required.
Responsibilities
- Leads design and deployment of complete control architectures.
- Guides integration of process automation with commissioning strategy.
- Supports performance tuning and startup optimization.
- Coordinates across engineering, vendors, and operations teams.
- Establishes project-specific control and safety configuration standards.
- Provides hands-on leadership for commissioning and start-up activities.
- Interprets PFDs, P&IDs, Loop Diagrams, I/O Schematics, Control Narratives, Cause & Effects, and ISA datasheets to support system design.
- Demonstrates expertise in control loops and instrumentation for flow, pressure, level, density, temperature, pH, and analyzers, with experience in mineral processing and oil & gas operations.
- Leads field integration, loop checks, punch list development, and troubleshooting during plant commissioning and start-up.
- Identifies root causes and manages punch list remediation with effective solutions.
- Prepares clear technical documentation, control narratives, and daily reports.
- Works effectively in cross-functional project teams to align control system integration with overall project goals.
- Provides direct supervision, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior engineers and staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a similar engineering field.
- 5-10 years of experience in process control engineering with leadership experience.
- Expertise in writing, interpreting, and configuring PLC/DCS logic and HMI systems, with experience in platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, DeltaV, Honeywell, or ABB.
- Strong safety-first mindset with working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, PSM, MSHA, IEC 61131/61508, ISA).
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to possess a passport for international travel.

Work Environment
- On-site in heavy industrial environments, primarily mining and gas industries.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, moisture, slippery/uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and heights.
- Frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching.
- Exposure to noise, vibrations, well-treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural gas, and liquid hydrocarbons.
- Irregular or extended hours, including weekends, based on project demands.
Travel Requirements
This position requires frequent travel, estimated at 50% to 80%, including both domestic and international assignments. Candidates must be flexible to travel on short notice and for extended durations, including weekends, to meet project deadlines.
