About the role

The Hudson Vicinage is seeking a self-starter to perform the following duties in the Criminal Division. The selected candidate will perform these duties under the direction of the Criminal Division manager and other supervisory personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Review all court orders and calendars daily for 11 Criminal Division Judges plus the CJP Judge to validate data and minimize loss of liberty incidents due to clerical error.
  • Review Jail commitment lists, daily, to ensure all newly committed inmates are properly committed under warrant complaints or active bench warrants.
  • Review the validity of all bench warrants serving as a detainer or "hold."
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the jail, confirm receipt of all release and discharge orders daily.
  • Collaborate with the Criminal Division court teams and stakeholders, as needed, to identify and resolve issues preventing timely release.
  • Liaise with Hudson County Sheriff's Department on all defendants taken into custody from the courthouse, confirm validity of warrant and facilitate same-day superior court appearances if possible.
  • Identify gaps in process/procedure that drive loss of liberty incidents; communicate findings to Criminal Division Managers.
  • Serve as the Division's loss of liberty subject matter expert; provide regular staff training and refreshers to avoid loss of liberty incidents.
  • Review all automated systems to cross reference data entry with court generated release orders and discharges. Systems include but not limited to Promis Gavel, PCSAM, CCIS, ECS, CCM, JWS, eCourts.
  • Maintain a daily spreadsheet to track statistics related to loss of liberty incidents and incidents that were avoided to inform Division processes/training needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and meetings with Division management as necessary.
  • Compile daily commitment and discharge information for 11 criminal courtrooms into one central location.

Qualifications

  • Open to Judiciary employees who have successfully completed the working test period in the following career (classified) titles: Advancement Probation Officer, Probation Officer Bilingual, Lateral Reassignment Senior Probation Officer, Senior Probation Officer Bilingual.
  • Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Senior Probation Officer Bilingual as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title.
  • Experience Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any area, which includes or is supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences and two years of professional experience in interviewing clients and/or casework involving gathering and analyzing socioeconomic information; determining client treatment needs; providing access to social services, therapeutic interventions, rehabilitative assistance, or professional counseling; and/or preparing reports and/or orders including findings and recommendations.
  • Substitution: A master's degree from an accredited college or university in the behavioral or social sciences may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • BICAT Testing: Candidates selected to serve in a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) performance examination or provide proof of having established bilingual proficiency with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $64,317.50 to $108,810.90 for Schedule A, and $64,317.50 to $101,520.57 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

Pay

SALARY: The salary range for this position is $64,317.50 to $108,810.90 for Schedule A, and $64,317.50 to $101,520.57 for Schedule B.

Schedule

The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Skills

Requires the ability to review court orders and calendars, manage jail commitment lists, validate bench warrants, liaise with stakeholders, and maintain spreadsheets.
