About the role
D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., is seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel for their Legal Department. The right candidate will provide legal guidance in connection with the company’s data, AI and privacy policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
The Senior Privacy Counsel will provide legal guidance and support concerning e-commerce, home sale transactions, marketing, financial services, information technology and other issues that arise. Essential duties include:
- Providing legal advice in connection with the company's privacy, cybersecurity, data use, artificial intelligence (AI), information technology and data governance practices and procedures
- Drafting documentation as necessary
- Ensuring marketing and communication practices comply with TCPA and CAN-SPAM requirements
- Tracking and analyzing existing and new federal and state privacy, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data use, breach notification and similar statutes and regulations
- Providing counsel in connection with the company’s data subject rights, privacy impact assessments, information incidents and data breach responses
- Overseeing the privacy team for privacy inquiries, including monitoring intake channels
- Developing, implementing and maintaining the company’s privacy and data governance program
- Interacting daily with personnel across the company regarding a broad array of compliance issues
- Managing and prioritizing multiple projects, analyzing business and legal risks, and coordinating with stakeholders
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Jurist Doctoral degree (J.D.)
- 8 years or more of experience
- Current license to practice law
- CIPP/US, CIPP/E or other privacy certifications
- Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Deep understanding of federal and state privacy laws, data use regulations, breach notification requirements and emerging AI requirements
- Knowledge of privacy management platforms
- Proven ability to build and scale governance programs and translate complex legal and technical requirements into clear, practical guidance
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- Experience in a leading law firm
- Information technology, privacy, data governance, cybersecurity, and financial services regulation experience
- Experience with AI and AI-related regulations
