Senior/Principle Civil Engineer

About the role

The Senior/Principal Civil Engineer will provide civil and structural engineering support for natural gas pipeline facility projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of natural gas. This role involves overseeing civil and structural design, ensuring compliance with company and industry specifications, assisting with scope development, and supporting construction activities. The engineer will check drawing packages, manage engineering contractors, select materials and equipment, and collaborate with project managers on multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee civil and structural design and engineering of pipeline facilities.
• Ensure designs comply with company specifications, industry codes, and standards (e.g., ASME B31.8, 49 CFR Part 192).
• Assist with scope development alongside estimating and project development groups.
• Support construction activities and provide on-site engineering support as needed.
• Check drawing packages and manage engineering contractors to align with project goals.
• Select appropriate materials and equipment fit for purpose.
• Draft engineering, construction, and land contracts with strong technical writing skills.
• Manage material procurement processes.
• Travel up to 30% of the time, including extended on-site support (up to 4–6 weeks) for complex projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university program.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Minimum 10 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, including creation, review, or approval of engineering design drawings.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing engineering contractors.
• Minimum 3 years of experience creating, executing, and managing engineering contracts and scopes of work.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
• Strong organizational skills, initiative, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with team members, clients, permitting agencies, and contractors.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of pipeline design requirements and applicable codes (ASME B31.8, 49 CFR Part 192).
• Focus on civil and structural engineering of facilities, with interest in technical project management.
