About the role

RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, is seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to design and develop Electronic Warfare (EW) electronics products for defense applications at our Goleta, California location. This onsite role involves leading the design and development of airborne electronic products while meeting size, weight, power, reliability, and cost requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of airborne electronic products for Electronic Warfare (EW) applications, including Radar Warning Receivers (RWR) and other EW systems requiring familiarity with Radio Frequency (RF) circuitry and system interfaces.
  • Communicate with executive leadership on matters of significant importance, including briefings with senior leaders.
  • Work in an environment with mixed-signal circuits, including Power, Analog, Digital, FPGA, SoC, and SubSystems.
  • Support multiple programs concurrently, generating requirements documentation, design artifacts, verification and test plans, trade studies, failure root cause and corrective actions, presentations, and other technical documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership as part of a cross-disciplinary product development team, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers.
  • Participate in the creation of proposals for both Cost and Technical Volumes.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 7 years of experience.
  • Experience with modern electronic system design, including high-performance FPGAs, Flash and DDR memory interfaces, Analog-to-Digital (A/D) and Digital-to-Analog (D/A) conversion, DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion, and mixed-signal circuit analysis.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout support, signal integrity analysis, and validation of FPGA-based digital and mixed-signal systems, including power conversion and power delivery network design.
  • Proficiency with electronic design and simulation tools such as Mentor Xpedition (or equivalent), SPICE-based simulators, MATLAB, and HyperLynx SI for high-speed signal integrity analysis.
  • Experience developing system-level block diagrams, defining hardware architectures, and managing detailed bills of materials (BOMs) for complex electronic assemblies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing FPGA-based circuitry and JTAG programming of FPGA devices.
  • Electrical design and analysis using Mentor Graphics XPedition and HyperLynx SI, SPICE.
  • Design experience with CCAs involving FPGAs, flash memory, DDR RAM, ADCs, DACs, power conversion integrated circuits, and supporting analog circuits.
  • Experience with RF components or specifications and creating point-of-load (POL) supplies for RF circuitry.
  • Experience mentoring others.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $145,600 – $276,800 USD. The range reflects all experience levels, and RTX considers factors such as role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills when extending an offer.

Schedule

This is an onsite role based in Goleta, CA. Employees in onsite roles, including this position, will work primarily onsite.
