About the role

Design electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby power distribution for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage in industrial facilities. Serve as lead engineer and client contact on larger projects, managing the full lifecycle from planning through bid documents and construction support.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for building power (normal, emergency, standby) at 208v, 480v, and medium voltage levels
  • Execute duties on larger projects independently
  • Serve as client contact and lead engineer
  • Document all necessary calculations: short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, and more
  • Maintain project document organization
  • Manage time and meet commitments
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection needs; coordinate fixture placement/mounting with other trades
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code
  • Apply code expertise: NEC, NFPA 72/101, IBC
  • Specify means, methods, and common work (grounding, start-up, LV & MV cables)
  • Specify equipment
  • Design low voltage systems: LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras, and more
  • Create power plans, power one-line diagrams, and panel schedules
  • Define fire alarm requirements per IBC and NFPA 101
  • Define low voltage systems requirements
  • Review scope with client; create and manage needs list
  • Produce bid documents: layout drawings, one-lines, riser diagrams, schedules, details, and specifications
  • Add 2D & 3D devices to Xrefs in CAD
  • Procure long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment: switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCCs, generators, variable speed drives, UPSs
  • Configure transformers
  • Perform short circuit calculations to identify deficiencies or series ratings
  • Estimate weights of main tray/trapezes and equipment needing support
  • Assist in managing electrical bid process for clients, observe construction, and assist with startup
  • Conduct project planning and feasibility studies
  • Actively participate in and support department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance
  • Research electrical building/power materials and best practices
