Senior Preconstruction Manager
About the role
You provide strategic leadership and guidance during the preconstruction phase to ensure projects are positioned for success long before work begins in the field. This role is intended for highly experienced professionals with 15+ years of overall construction experience, including at least 10 years in a preconstruction leadership or estimating capacity, who are capable of managing very large, complex, specialized, and/or multiple concurrent projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and direct the preconstruction team across contracting, scheduling, estimating, and bidding activities
- Cook up detailed estimates, cost models, and bid strategies that balance competitiveness with constructability and long-term project success
- Collaborate seamlessly with architects, engineers, and subcontractors, fostering positive team dynamics and positioning Choate as a preferred builder in the market
- Stay actively engaged in business development efforts, identifying new opportunities, participating in presentations, and strengthening Choate’s client pipeline
- Guide and mentor preconstruction teams, delegating effectively, developing talent, and creating clarity and confidence across pursuits and estimates
- Make decisions with the full business in mind, leading bid-day strategy, evaluating deal value, and driving outcomes that support Choate Construction’s financial and strategic goals

- Bring a disciplined, proactive approach to risk management—ensuring estimates are accurate, risks are identified early, and contract requirements are fully understood and addressed
