Senior Precision Machinist

Discovery 2 Scale is building the Autonomous Foundry for Advanced Materials—an end-to-end platform connecting materials design, autonomous experimentation, qualification, and scale-up to deliver production-ready materials faster and with less risk. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated machinist to help bring our vision to life by building the hardware that powers our autonomous materials platform.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual lathes and milling machines.
• Set up and operate CNC machining centers.
• Program and operate Wire EDM (WEDM) equipment.
• Manufacture high-precision prototype and production components.
• Read engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Inspect parts to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to develop novel hardware.
• Maintain equipment and a safe, organized shop.

Requirements

• Two or more years of machining experience.
• Experience with manual lathes and milling machines.
• Experience operating and programming CNC machines.
• Experience with Wire EDM.
• Ability to machine complex components to tight tolerances, including ±0.0005 inch.
• Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, fixtures, and metrology.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• CAD/CAM experience with Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, or similar tools.
• Surface grinding and precision finishing experience.
• Experience machining titanium, nickel superalloys, stainless steels, tool steels, and exotic metals.
• Experience building scientific equipment, aerospace hardware, or custom prototypes.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• CMM inspection experience.
