Senior Practice Leader - Civil Engineering
About the Role
Langan is seeking a Senior Practice Leader - Civil Engineering to join its collaborative team in Sacramento, CA. This individual will serve a key function in leading and supporting business development, engineering design, and related permitting efforts for a variety of multidisciplinary land development projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with top industry leadership in a continuous learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, permitting, and execution of residential, institutional, commercial centers, warehouse distribution centers, and mixed-use projects for both public and private clients.
- Collaborate with office and regional leadership to develop strategic growth plans and optimize staff utilization.
- Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset by actively contributing to business development efforts—cultivating new client relationships for the firm and strengthening partnerships with existing clients.
- Oversee site/civil engineering efforts from concept through completion, including site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion, and sediment control.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight in stormwater management, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, SWPPP preparation.
- Contribute to technical and proposal writing with strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and sound judgment.
- Apply integrated knowledge of land development engineering, including coordination with geotechnical and environmental disciplines.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
- Valid Professional Engineer license in California.
- 16+ years of successful, local and related site/civil engineering experience with a concentration in land development on both small and large projects.
- Proven success in client development, client management, and project delivery abilities.
- Active participation in professional organizations.
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment, and to mentor project and staff engineers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.

Pay
Pay Range: $117,000—$171,000 USD. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
Schedule
- Up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time, and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience, and level.
