Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer, RDS
About the role
Join the Relational Database Service (RDS) for PostgreSQL team, one of the fastest-growing AWS businesses. PostgreSQL has been named the database of the year three times by DB-Engines and is one of the fastest-growing databases in the industry. As part of the Database Engineering Team for RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, you will build, improve, and manage PostgreSQL as a fully managed database service. This role is not a typical DBA or DBE position; instead, you will be an integral part of the core database engineering team, collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and program managers throughout the full product cycle: feature brainstorming, design, implementation, validation, and customer escalation.
As a member of the AWS Utility Computing (UC) organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services, including specialized security solutions for cloud services.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with customers to understand their challenges, resolve issues during critical escalations, and teach best practices.
- Act as the "voice of the customer," bringing insights to the engineering process to design new features and plan end-to-end test scenarios.
- Shape the direction of the RDS service to improve usability for database developers and administrators.
- Drive feature enhancements, permanently resolve root causes of issues, and improve the performance of the managed database service.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for databases, collaborating with development, support, account teams, and customers.
- Engage with the open-source community through forums, conferences, and contributions such as feature or bug-fix code submissions.
- Extend your expertise to other database engines beyond PostgreSQL.
- Design and code solutions to improve software architecture, create metrics, implement automation, and resolve software defects.
- Build high-impact solutions for a large customer base.
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work cross-functionally to drive business decisions with technical input.
- Operate in a startup-like development environment, focusing on high-priority projects.
Qualifications
- Experience in software development or experience with PostgreSQL.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of data engineering experience.
