About the role

Laravel is looking for our first dedicated Senior Infrastructure Engineer, PostgreSQL to join our all-remote Laravel Cloud infrastructure team. We're on a mission to improve the experience of developers everywhere in the world by building a solid infrastructure foundation. This role is specifically for candidates in the EU and Eastern US timezones.

We value empathy for users, pragmatism, and teamwork. You’ll own our PostgreSQL offering end-to-end—from the operator that runs it to the automation, reliability, and best practices. This is a build-it-from-the-ground-up role where you’ll shape what "excellent" means for our managed PostgreSQL service on Laravel Cloud, using Kubernetes, AWS, and Go.

Infrastructure Engineering at Laravel

  • Work with a world-class team, impacting the developer experience of hundreds of thousands of developers globally.
  • Contribute to Laravel Cloud, our most ambitious project—a fully managed infrastructure platform optimized for Laravel and PHP.
  • Spend time researching the best solutions and ensuring we do things right.
  • Collaborate through pair programming, quick huddles, and team-driven problem-solving.
  • Build custom tooling and integrations when needed.
  • Prioritize documentation in our all-remote environment, both for internal use and our users.
  • Enjoy flexible hours and minimal bureaucracy to work in the way that suits you best.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, manage, and optimize PostgreSQL clusters on Kubernetes, owning high availability, performance, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Kubernetes operators and controllers in Go to automate database and platform operations.
  • Design, build, and operate highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS across multiple accounts and regions.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, automating manual operational workflows.
  • Improve reliability, scalability, and security through monitoring, observability, and proactive capacity planning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve developer experience, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation.
  • Define and promote best practices for database operations, and mentor engineers as our PostgreSQL expertise grows.

What Success Looks Like

  • First 30 days: Understand our PostgreSQL platform, surrounding infrastructure, workloads, and operational pain points.
  • First 60 days: Take ownership of PostgreSQL operations and begin improving reliability, monitoring, and automation.
  • First 90 days: Deliver measurable improvements in performance, scalability, and operational maturity, setting the long-term direction for the platform.
  • After 12 months: Become the owner and expert for PostgreSQL at Laravel, reducing operational complexity and enabling engineering teams to build and scale with confidence.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, preferably with large-scale production systems.
  • Deep expertise with PostgreSQL in production: performance tuning, replication, backups and recovery, high availability, major version upgrades, and troubleshooting under pressure.
  • Mastery of AWS (or GCP), designing, deploying, and operating production cloud infrastructure, preferably in multi-account, multi-region environments.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and container orchestration, including production cluster operations, stateful workloads, storage, networking, RBAC, cluster upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong proficiency in Go, with experience building and maintaining K8s operators and controllers using tools like Kubebuilder, controller-runtime, and the Operator SDK.
  • Strong Linux systems administration and networking fundamentals—network protocols, load balancing, caching, and DNS management.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in a team setting (Terraform preferred), enforcing sanity checks and policies.
  • Experience with CI/CD and GitOps workflows, using tools like Argo CD or Flux.
  • Opinionated about logging, monitoring, and alerting tooling and processes (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Preferably, experience running PostgreSQL on Kubernetes with an operator like CloudNativePG or Crunchy Postgres for Kubernetes.

Benefits

  • Small, tight-knit team where every developer counts.
  • Fully remote and globally distributed working environment.
  • Option to attend Laracon conferences around the world.
  • Health care plan (Medical, Dental & Vision).
  • Paid time off (Vacation, Sick & Public holidays).
  • Family leave (Maternity, Paternity).
  • Pension plans (as locally applicable).
  • Performance-based bonus plan.
  • Company equity.
