About the role
The Senior Portfolio Accountant oversees a portfolio of property management accounts, ensuring financial accuracy, client satisfaction, and operational excellence. This role requires a strategic thinker who is also a strong team player, collaborating across departments to drive financial performance and support organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Manages and oversees a portfolio of client accounts, serving as the primary point of contact for financial matters.
- Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements, and reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Develops, implements, and maintains recordkeeping and accounting systems, leveraging current computer technology.
- Conducts month-end and year-end close processes; prepares budget and financial forecasts.
- Publishes financial statements in a timely manner and develops periodic reports for management.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with operations, leasing, and maintenance teams to support seamless account management.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement and recommends solutions to business and financial problems.
- Reports to management and clients regarding the finances of assigned accounts.
- Partners cross-functionally with operations, leasing, and maintenance teams to support seamless account management.
- Keeps current with financial policies, regulations, and legislation.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; Associate’s degree with significant relevant experience considered.
- Minimum of three to five years of experience in accounting or property management finance; prior portfolio management experience strongly preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel.
- Experience with property management software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, ResMan, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts simultaneously.
