Senior Police Officer (FOR INTERNAL OR LAID-OFF EMPLOYEES ONLY)

About the role

The Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) seeks a Senior Police Officer to join our team. This role involves community-based policing, collaborative problem solving, and overseeing the FTO program for Police Officer Trainees.

Responsibilities

• Participates in community-based policing and collaborative problem solving
• Maintains law and order at District facilities
• Contact and cooperate with local law-enforcement agencies
• Collects and records physical and oral evidence of crimes
• Locate and interview witnesses
• Prepare written reports about crimes against District property and offenses against District personnel or students
• Assists in planning and executing special surveillance activities
• Trains new Police Officers and provides work direction

Requirements

• Current or retired LAUSD employee with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service
• Two years of full-time experience as a Police Officer after obtaining the Basic California Peace Officer Standards and Training (CA P.O.S.T.) certificate
• Valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California
• Ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferable
• Qualify quarterly with departmentally approved firearms at a designated police range

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent
• Completion of college-level courses is preferable
• Working knowledge of collaborative problem solving techniques, community-based policing, relationship building, LAUSD School Climate Bill of Rights and Restorative Justice practices, Education Code sections pertaining to school-related safety, and California Welfare and Institutions Code sections pertaining to juvenile court law
• Ability to apply collaborative problem solving techniques, keep complete and accurate records, and prepare clear and concise reports
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, identify, address, and resolve workplace disputes, issues, and problems

Skills

• Spanish language proficiency is desirable
• Ability to operate two-way radio equipment and enunciate clearly when broadcasting
• Ability to think clearly and logically, use good judgment, and make quick and appropriate decisions in emergency situations
• Ability to identify, address, and resolve workplace disputes, issues, and problems
