About the role

HEAPY is seeking a Senior Level Plumbing Designer or Plumbing Engineer to join our hybrid team in Raleigh, NC. This position supports the Healthcare and Corporate Teams and involves applying standard plumbing design engineering techniques to HEAPY projects. You’ll perform assignments with specific objectives related to plumbing engineering systems in the built environment, including a foundational understanding of fire suppression design for renovations and straightforward systems. This role offers growth opportunities while contributing to meaningful projects in a trusted, long-standing market.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate input into the model or design tool and focus on understanding underlying reasons by asking questions.
• Develop full plan designs, details, and outlines; identify materials, cost estimates, and perform calculations for project segments.
• Gather and record information for the preparation of design specifications.
• Review, evaluate, and approve vendor shop drawings, bids, and submittals to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Review and approve plumbing design drawings for assigned project segments.
• Collaborate with colleagues on field observations, tests, measurements, and data collection to prepare designs, reports, and documentation.
• Apply standard plumbing design engineering techniques to segments of projects, small projects, or larger projects.
• Leverage AI and automation in design and project responsibilities as appropriate.
• Meet project deadlines, monitor progress, and ensure deliverables meet requirements.
• Ensure project deliverables adhere to client requirements and required standards, implementing corrective action as needed.
• Deliver exceptional quality assurance to build trust, increase brand loyalty, and drive success.
• Build strong customer relationships by delivering service that exceeds expectations.
• Enhance design capabilities through continuous learning, collaboration, experimentation, and feedback.

Requirements

• Normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program. Equivalent experience or training may be considered.
• Typically requires 8+ years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience/advanced degree) in plumbing engineering systems in the built environment.
• Experience using various computer software packages and automated engineering/design equipment.
• Capability to exercise judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Possession of a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification and working toward Professional Engineering (PE) Registration or Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) designation within the first 2 years.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to remain sedentary at a workstation for long periods while operating a keyboard and computer screen.
• Ability to operate a mouse, stylus, or similar tool for adjustments on electronic visuals.
• Ability to see details on a screen, including differences in colors, shades, and brightness.
• Ability to communicate in person, electronically, and via phone.
• Possession of reliable transportation to and from project sites.
• Ability to work in all indoor and outdoor environments, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
• Ability to access all areas of jobsites, including ascending/descending stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and navigating elevation changes.
• Capable of working in physical positions such as kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, or bending over.
• Ability to move, transport, or position items weighing up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to apply established protocols and safety guidelines in a timely manner.
• Ability to gather, organize, and evaluate project-related information and calculations.
