Porch Group is a leading vertical software and insurance platform positioned to be the best partner to help homebuyers move, maintain, and fully protect their homes. We offer differentiated products and services, with homeowners insurance at the center of this relationship. As a leader in the home services software-as-a-service (SaaS) space, we’ve built deep relationships with approximately 30 thousand companies key to the home-buying transaction, such as home inspectors, mortgage companies, and title companies. In 2020, Porch Group began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol PRCH.

About the role

The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer - AI Platform to lead AI-first platform work at the intersection of agentic systems and production infrastructure. You'll design and ship the systems that let agents and LLMs do real work inside a high-volume product—spanning scheduling, report intake, customer communication, billing workflows, and data extraction. You'll also own the foundation underneath it: our PHP application, AWS/ECS infrastructure, and MySQL/Aurora data layer. This role offers unusual latitude to define how AI works at Porch Group, backed by the scale and stability of the company and the data of a category-leading home inspection software platform.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI features end to end—retrieval, context engineering, structured output, tool/function calling, and evaluation harnesses that measure whether a change actually made things better
  • Design and operate agent orchestration systems—multi-agent and multi-step workflows including task decomposition, tool routing, state and memory, retries and fallbacks, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and guardrails against failure modes that don't look like exceptions
  • Operate non-deterministic systems responsibly—tracing, evals in CI, prompt and model versioning, token and latency budgets, model routing, and cost controls
  • Own ECS container platform operations—service definitions, task sizing, autoscaling, blue/green deploys, and orchestration for both long-running services and async workers
  • Architect AWS infrastructure—event-driven and serverless pipelines (Lambda, SQS/SNS/EventBridge), IAM and network design, all managed as infrastructure as code
  • Build and extend services in our production PHP codebase, integrating AI capability into existing product surfaces without destabilizing them
  • Drive database performance at scale—schema design, indexing, replication and read scaling, zero-downtime migrations, and query performance work across MySQL and Aurora
  • Raise the bar across the team through code review, design docs, mentorship, incident response, and on-call participation

Requirements

  • 10+ years building and running production software, with real ownership of systems at scale
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience shipping LLM-backed features—not just API calls, but agent orchestration, RAG, evaluation, and the operational discipline to keep them working
  • Strong PHP (8.x) skills in a mature, high-traffic codebase
  • Deep AWS architecture experience with hands-on ECS operations, infrastructure as code (Terraform or CDK), and CI/CD
  • Expert-level relational database skills with MySQL and/or Aurora—able to read an execution plan and act on it
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, observability, and application security
  • Clear written communication and sound judgment about tradeoffs, especially where AI is the wrong tool for the job

Nice to have

  • Go
  • MCP or comparable agent-tooling standards
  • Vector search and embedding pipelines
  • Kubernetes
  • Document and image extraction pipelines
  • Real estate/proptech/field-services domain experience

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage including three medical plan options, two dental plan options, and a vision plan
  • Voluntary Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, and Accident plans
  • Pre-tax savings options including a partially employer-funded Health Savings Account and Flexible Savings Accounts (healthcare, dependent care, transportation)
  • Company-paid Basic Life and AD&D, Short and Long-Term Disability benefits
  • Voluntary Life and AD&D plans
  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) plans with a discretionary employer match
  • Employer-paid wellbeing program (Supportlinc) providing mental health coaching, clinical care, and confidential resources including will preparation
  • Free resource (LifeBalance) for year-round discounts on gym memberships, travel, appliances, movies, pet insurance, and more
  • Flexible paid vacation, company-paid holidays (typically nine per year), paid sick time, and paid parental leave
  • Identity theft program, travel assistance, and fitness and other discounts programs

Pay

Pay Range: $168,800 – $236,300 annually. Actual pay will reflect factors such as work experience, skillsets, job-related knowledge, alignment with market and Porch employees, and geographic location. Additionally, you will be eligible to receive long-term incentive awards, subject to program guidelines and approvals.
