Senior Plant Cost Accountant
About the role
This position is part of a $400M global industrial operation, partnering with the Operations Controller, operations team, and finance team to drive positive financial performance.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain comprehensive product costing models and allocations, ensuring they accurately reflect all cost components, including materials, labor, overhead, and other relevant expenses.
Improve costing transparency throughout the organization.
Conduct in-depth analysis of costs to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
Support the operations team to develop and execute action plans.
Analyze production variances, develop root cause, and support the operations team with mitigating actions.
Analyze inventory levels and slow-moving stock.
Develop, capture, and analyze operational metrics to identify trends, support strategic changes and improve the company's financial performance.
Lead and oversee capital expenditures by partnering with operations and engineering to evaluate investments, validate financial returns (ROI, NPV, payback), monitor spend against budgets, and ensure expected benefits are achieved through post-investment review.
Understand internal controls and review local policies and procedures to assess best practices and risks.
Provide value-added, fact-based analytics through the interpretation of financial results. Drive improved decision making through insightful analysis and strong relationships with key operations personnel.
Support with the preparation of weekly, monthly and yearly financial reports.
Develop costing plans for annual budgets.
Cook with other members of the finance team to compile, analyze and report other data.
Qualifications
Excellent computer skills, specifically Excel (i.e. data analysis, pivot tables etc.).
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Ability to plan time, manage reporting deadlines, and multi-task.
Reliable, flexible and self-motivated.
Strong technical and analytical skills.
Education and Experience
A High School Diploma or GED required.
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related field preferred.
Five (5) + years cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with standard cost.
Experience with lean manufacturing practices.
SAP experience a plus.
Power BI or other automation tools a plus.
