Senior Piping Designer
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Piping Designer to support and help lead our growing Life Sciences team in Peachtree Corners, GA. The ideal candidate possesses 10+ years of industrial piping design experience and has a strong desire to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continued growth of our design team.
In this position, the successful candidate will lead the design and layout of process and utility piping systems for clients across the United States while supporting multidisciplinary project teams and developing junior designers. Projects will span multiple markets and geographies, providing opportunities to broaden technical knowledge and deepen expertise across a wide range of industrial and Life Sciences facilities.
We are seeking a self-motivated professional capable of independently leading piping design efforts while ensuring high-quality project execution. The ideal candidate for this position is located in the Atlanta, GA area to be in close proximity to our team. Remote candidates will be considered with the right skillset; a minimum quarterly trip to the Atlanta-area office will be expected in addition to the regular travel for this role.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and layout of process and utility piping systems
- Support multidisciplinary project teams and develop junior designers
- Develop and revise P&IDs, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, piping plans, equipment layouts, and isometric drawings
- Design piping systems associated with pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, control valve stations, and inline instrumentation
- Create accurate mechanical and piping installation documents utilizing information from vendor equipment drawings and specifications
- Develop complete piping layouts from P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment arrangements, and vendor documentation
- Apply knowledge of piping supports, restraints, and coordination with structural engineering
- Apply piping flexibility, thermal expansion, and stress analysis principles
- Select, size, and apply manual valves, including installation requirements
- Apply piping specifications, construction bulk materials, equipment installation details, and applicable industry standards
- Understand workflow and information exchange between Process, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Architectural disciplines
- Understand schedule constraints and deliverable requirements for successful project execution
- Accurately estimate design effort, prioritize workload, and meet project schedules
- Apply company engineering, BIM, and CAD drafting standards
- Lead piping design efforts from conceptual design through construction documentation
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate a team of piping designers on multidisciplinary projects
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings
- Perform quality reviews of piping deliverables prior to issuance
- Support Design-Build and EPC project delivery
- Perform field walkdowns and verify existing conditions
- Present technical information in formal client and project meetings
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of department standards and workflows
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, Design Technology, or equivalent industry experience
- 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design
- Expertise in industrial piping design and drafting standards, preferably in Process Industrial and/or Life Sciences facilities
- Experience designing complex process, utility, and facility piping systems
- Advanced proficiency with 2D AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Revit
- Experience with Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and multidisciplinary coordination is preferred
- Up to 25% travel; increased travel to Peachtree Corners, GA headquarters (usually once per quarter) will be required for remote employees
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while mentoring junior designers
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Many factors are considered when determining compensation at Pond, including scope and level of position, geographic location, candidate skill, knowledge and experience. Starting base pay may vary depending on these factors. Additional cash incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package.
