Join ENERCON's Nuclear Services Group (NSG) and Reactor Developer Division (RXDEV) team as a 3D Designer and put your creativity to work solving some of the nation’s most complex engineering challenges. This role can be located in one of the following locations: Kennewick, WA; Naperville, IL (Chicago Area); Overland Park, KS; Kennesaw, GA (Atlanta Area); Fort Worth, TX; Aiken, SC; or Dallas, TX.
Responsibilities
- 3D Modeling & Technical Drawing:
- Develop creative, high-precision 3D models and detailed engineering drawings for facility layouts, system modifications, and new equipment development.
- Prepare drawings for piping systems and layouts in accordance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
- Prepare and review: piping isometrics, general arrangement (GA) drawings, 2D and 3D design models, and project line lists.
- Utilize SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) to manage engineering data, documentation, and workflows.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes such as ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and client standards.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex design issues, interferences, and model clashes.
- Leadership & Project Oversight:
- Serve as a technical lead/supervisor for piping design on assigned projects.
- Supervise, coordinate, and manage design work across multiple concurrent projects.
- Provide daily direction, oversight, and performance accountability for designers/drafters.
- Mentor and develop junior staff; promote knowledge sharing and best practices.
- Provide man-hour estimates and support project planning activities.
- Ensure ownership of project deliverables, including quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
- Coordination & Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams (mechanical, structural, electrical, and instrumentation).
- Provide input for inter-discipline coordination and participate in project meetings.
- Plan, facilitate, and lead 3D model reviews and constructability assessments.
- Coordinate vendor data integration and document control workflows within SPF.
- Standards & Continuous Improvement:
- Develop and maintain department standards, templates, and design guides.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, technical standards, and execution efficiency.
- Support data governance and digital engineering best practices within SPF environments.
- Perform thorough self-checks of drawings and 3D models to identify potential issues early and ensure accuracy and quality.
- Review and provide feedback on drawings produced by peers; mentor junior drafters/designers as needed.
- Maintain red-line documents (ECNs, FCRs, etc.) and ensure compliance with internal and client design standards.
- Project Execution:
- Meet schedule objectives and support project execution with reliable design deliverables.
- Travel occasionally for short trips to obtain site or facility credentials.
- Provide on-site field support and resolve design issues during construction as needed.
- Develop piping construction scope of work documentation.
- Support installation planning and constructability reviews.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree with 6+ years of experience, OR High school diploma with 10+ years of experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of design experience.
- Experience in nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation industries.
- Advanced proficiency with:
- SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) (data/document management, workflows).
- 3D design systems such as: Smart 3D (SP3D), PDS, Plant 3D, Octave Forte 3D, or similar.
- AutoCAD (2D/3D).
- A passion for creative piping and equipment layouts and facility design.
- Strong knowledge of ANSI/ASME codes and standards.
- Understanding of engineering discipline practices and the ability to coordinate design work across other disciplines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to learn new design tools and adapt to evolving project needs.
- Understanding of construction practices and field installation methodologies.
- Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) or Consulting Engineering environments.
- Experience in leadership and mentoring a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Occasional travel to client sites.
- Ability to:
- Sit for extended periods and perform computer-based work.
- Conduct field visits (walking, climbing, balancing, etc.).
- Lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Pay
Compensation range: USD $70,000.00 - USD $110,000.00 per year.
