About the role
In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Leads or administers work of PD&P designers and drafters, including preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) models, and construction drawings.
- Develops designs for complete and complex 3D model equipment layouts and pipe designs with minimal supervision, from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
- Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
- Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation, and construction economy.
- Participates in constructability reviews.
- Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
- Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
- Reviews PD&P design scope changes, as required, for project management.
- Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use.
- Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Develops drawings/documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics.
- Monitors work for compliance with applicable codes, project standards, discipline standards, and accepted engineering/construction practices.
- Coordinates 3D model activities and interference reconciliation within the discipline and with other physical disciplines.
- Develops conceptual designs, scope book, quantity and job hour estimates, and schedules during the development stage of projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, which includes verification of employment and education.
- Hands-on experience using a 3D piping design platform and isometric extraction (S3D preferred).
- Extensive knowledge and application of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes.
