Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute plant layout design activities with a focus on constructability, safety, maintainability, and compliance with applicable codes and industry standards.
- Support department leadership with technical execution, schedule management, quality assurance, and budget awareness related to piping design and layout activities.
- Aid in the development and review of project proposals and engineering estimates.
- Direct and coordinate the work of piping designers, drafters, and support personnel throughout project execution.
- Develop, review, and approve general arrangement drawings and plant layout packages.
- Develop, review, and approve piping plans, piping arrangements, sections, isometrics, and 3D models.
- Manage piping design deliverables including layout drawings, construction drawings, material take-offs, and bills of materials.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to designers, drafters, and checkers.
- Manage defined scopes of work or piping systems on large and complex projects.
- Cook up with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and construction teams to resolve design and interface challenges.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and construction personnel to ensure project requirements are properly incorporated into design deliverables.
- Review vendor and fabrication drawings for compliance with project requirements and layout intent.
- Manage engineering document indexes and piping progress reports.
- Support project planning, scheduling, staffing forecasts, and resource requirements.
- Perform additional duties as required to support project and departmental objectives.
Required Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or Associate Degree with relevant drafting and design coursework.
- 12+ years of piping design and plant layout experience in industrial facilities.
- Experience supporting power generation projects such as combined cycle, simple cycle, thermal, utility-scale, or similar industrial facilities preferred.
- Proven expertise in piping layout development for complex industrial plants.
- A strong understanding of piping codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or similar design software.
- Experience with Plant 3D and/or AVEVA E3D strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Navisworks and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated leadership experience directing design teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project efforts.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Certificate in Design/Drafting or related technical discipline.
- Direct experience with power plant piping layout, including:
- Turbine Buildings
- HRSG Systems
- Balance-of-Plant Systems
- Utility and Auxiliary Systems
