Senior Pipeline Engineer - Transmission & Distribution

About the role

The Senior Pipeline Engineer will lead pipeline design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including transmission and distribution pipelines. This role involves leading the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting design plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead pipeline design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion, addressing project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
• Prepare pipeline equipment specifications, including packaged equipment, construction specifications, data sheets, Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review pipeline vendor drawings and manage data interfaces with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
• Participate in the development of project schedules, scope, budget staffing planning, and construction planning.
• Effectively manage change orders and apply expert knowledge of pipeline concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the industry.
• Compile studies and reports, and write specifications for complex projects, developing non-standard design solutions.
• Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and project-related data to verify compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.
• Oversee construction administration, coordinating with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of materials.
• Lead field inspections, installation, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors, ensuring customer satisfaction goals are met.
• Participate in sales and marketing efforts, identifying and leading key pursuits.
• Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve financial performance targets.
• Prepare, present, and manage project budgets and cost estimates, reporting on project performance.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the pipeline engineering practice, mentoring less experienced engineers.
• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
• Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
• Alternatively, a Master's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering and 6 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ATF).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
• Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to travel (25% of the time).
• Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position is $145,000.00 - $230,000.00 yearly. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

Schedule

Full-time with up to 25% travel required.
