About the role
NVIDIA is seeking a Physical Design Engineer to join the Physical Design (PD) Methodology Team. This role is critical in driving innovation in PD across all NVIDIA’s products including Datacenter AI, HPC, Networking, Robotics, Autonomous Driving, Gaming, and more.
Responsibilities
- Develop innovative physical design methodologies for GPU, CPU, Network processors, and System-on-Chip (SoC), emphasizing PPA (Power, Performance, Area) and runtime improvement of the physical design flow on advanced technology nodes.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to drive tool and methodology improvements to deliver best-in-class PPA solutions across all product lines.
- Utilize AI/ML approaches to CAD to enhance design performance and reduce turnaround time, while increasing designer efficiency and productivity.
- Work with RTL, synthesis, DFT, foundry, timing, and other cross-functional teams to push the boundaries of physical design at scale.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in Physical Design, with a focus on methodology and flow development.
- Proven track record of PPA improvement on high-performance and low-power designs in advanced technology nodes.
- Strong understanding of physical design optimization and routing methodologies, particularly in power and area-efficient setup and hold optimization.
- Experience with STA, extraction, timing, and RC correlation, with a solid background in low-power design using UPF and utilization of FSDB/SAIFs for power optimization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of EM and IR analysis and closure.
- Expertise in synthesis, hierarchical design, pinning, and budgeting flows.
- Experience with power distribution networks, Design for Yield and Manufacturability, and thermal management.
- Proficiency in industry-standard EDA tools, including Cadence Innovus, genus, tempus, quantus, and joules.
- Strong understanding of industry-standard programming and scripting languages, such as TCL, Perl, Python, and C++.
Qualifications
- Experience applying machine learning models, large language models, and agent-based AI techniques to EDA/PD problems (analytics, prediction, optimization).
- Proficiency with data analysis/ML libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.).
- Experience with Cadence EDA tool suite – Innovus/genus/tempus/quantus/joules etc.
