Accountabilities
The Senior Pharmacy Benefit Consultant, Health Plan will serve as a strategic advisor for health plan clients, leading consulting engagements focused on pharmacy benefit management, cost optimization, and healthcare strategy.
This role requires strong analytical capabilities, client leadership, and the ability to translate complex pharmacy challenges into actionable recommendations.
- Lead end-to-end consulting projects for health plan clients, including strategy development, research, analysis, execution, and client presentations.
- Manage client relationships by understanding business objectives, developing customized strategies, and ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention.
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations using industry research, analytics, and pharmacy market intelligence.
- Conduct assessments of pharmacy benefit programs, including organizational reviews, vendor evaluations, process analyses, and clinical improvement initiatives.
- Review pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) and vendor contracts, identify opportunities for improvement, and support negotiations to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Lead procurement processes, including request for proposal (RFP) development, vendor evaluations, selection processes, and implementation planning.
- Develop strategic plans that address short-term priorities and long-term healthcare benefit goals.
- Identify opportunities to expand consulting services and support business development initiatives with existing and prospective clients.
- Create executive-level presentations, reports, and recommendations using strong written communication and data visualization skills.
- Participate in industry events, internal initiatives, and knowledge-sharing activities to strengthen market expertise.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to deliver comprehensive solutions tailored to client needs.
- Stay current on pharmacy benefit trends, healthcare regulations, market developments, and emerging opportunities.
Requirements
- The ideal candidate is an experienced pharmacy benefits and healthcare consulting professional with strong knowledge of managed care environments and the ability to advise senior stakeholders.
- You should combine industry expertise with analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex priorities.
- 3-5+ years of experience working in pharmacy benefits, pharmacy management, managed care, or healthcare consulting environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, healthcare, business, or a related field required; MBA, PharmD, or RPh credentials strongly preferred.
- A strong understanding of pharmacy benefit management, payer strategies, and healthcare industry operations.
- Experience developing strategies and implementing programs for large-scale pharmacy and medical benefit plans.
- Ability to analyze complex business challenges and provide practical, data-driven recommendations.
- Strong financial analysis skills, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience preparing client-facing presentations, reports, and strategic communications using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and seniority levels.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
- Experience managing client relationships and leading consulting engagements.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities.
