The role

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Primary Care Pharmacy Team.

Working alongside GPs and multidisciplinary primary care teams, you will play a key role in improving medicines management and delivering excellent patient care.

The post involves delivering the pharmacotherapy service as part of the GP Contract, supporting patients with their medicines through a patient-facing role that includes prescribing responsibilities and the development of your own clinical caseload in line with the Achieving Excellence strategy.

You will work across GP practices, care homes and other healthcare settings, promoting safe, effective and evidence-based prescribing while contributing to service improvement initiatives across the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).

Key responsibilities

  • Working as a member of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Primary Care Pharmacy Team, you will work closely with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff and the wider primary healthcare team to improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of prescribing and medicines use.
  • Delivering the pharmacotherapy service within GP practices, managing your own clinical caseload, providing individualised patient care through clinics, and prescribing where appropriate.
  • The role also includes supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based prescribing, contributing to joint projects and initiatives within the HSCP, promoting prescribing management, and helping to improve patient outcomes through safe and effective medicines optimisation.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Independent Prescriber qualification or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification.
  • Royal Pharmaceutical Society post-registration foundation credentialed, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant post-registration pharmacy experience.
  • Demonstrable commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Sound clinical knowledge with experience of medicines optimisation and prescribing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of working directly with primary care teams and knowledge of GP clinical systems is desirable.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between GP practices, care homes and other healthcare settings.
  • PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland check required.
