As a Senior Performance Engineer within ENGIE North America’s Renewable & Flex Power Generation Business Unit, you will provide advanced data analytics and performance engineering leadership for the company’s renewable asset fleet across the USA. This role focuses on improving performance, availability, and reliability through advanced analytics, visualization tools, KPI reporting, and cross-functional operational support for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets (~75%) and solar assets (~25%).
Reporting to the Performance Analytics Manager.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve tools that monitor the overall performance, availability, and reliability of the operating fleet, with approximately 75% focus on BESS assets and 25% on solar assets.
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics to proactively identify failure modes, diagnose underperformance, and provide operations with actionable recommendations.
- Conduct detailed performance investigations for BESS and solar equipment, including availability losses, degradation trends, inverter or PCS issues, control system events, solar data analysis, and site-level performance studies to identify root causes of underperformance.
- Support field operations with testing, data collection, and performance validation for BESS and solar assets; for solar, this includes on-site testing, data analysis, and performance studies to assess equipment and site-level underperformance.
- Partner with operations, asset management, and technical teams to improve KPI reporting, dashboards, root-cause tracking, and asset performance visibility using scalable methods and innovative algorithms.
- Provide analytical support for budgeting, spare parts planning, outage reviews, and other operational decision-making processes.
- Help establish company standards for performance analytics, methodologies, and reporting across BESS and solar assets, including coordination with internal teams, OEMs, and external service providers.
- Mentor less experienced engineers, communicate complex technical findings to diverse audiences, and take ownership of initiatives that improve fleet performance and operational decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in performance engineering, energy analytics, or operations support for utility-scale power generation assets, with direct exposure to BESS and solar strongly preferred.
- Experience with data visualization tools and platforms such as Power BI, Grafana, Databricks, or similar analytics environments.
- Proficiency with programming and data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R, MATLAB, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of electrical equipment, controls, and performance calculations for utility-scale BESS and solar plants, including solar site testing, operational data analysis, and performance studies.
- Experience working with and improving data architectures, analytics workflows, and reporting processes for utility-scale renewable assets is strongly preferred.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical findings to diverse audiences and collaborate effectively with operations, asset management, OEMs, and external engineering partners.
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, work independently, manage multiple priorities concurrently, and implement practical solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a high degree of accuracy and ownership.
- Ability to travel to operating sites as needed, including locations in Texas and California (up to 10% domestic travel, including some overnight trips).
- Must comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
Schedule
- Eligible for hybrid work policy (based in Houston, TX), with three days working in the office and two days remote.
Pay
- Salary Range: $88,800 – $128,000 USD annually. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, and internal pay alignment.
