About the Role

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) are seeking a responsible and dedicated Senior Payroll Specialist to join the Finance Department. This role reports to the Payroll Manager and is responsible for ensuring the accurate execution, compliance, and integrity of the organization's payroll runs.

Responsibilities

  • Assess complex payroll components (e.g., multi-state taxation, imputed income, union payroll, garnishments) and provide analysis to ensure compliance and operational soundness.
  • Monitor terminations to ensure adherence to last pay laws.
  • Act as a core functional user for UKG, supporting system enhancements, upgrades, or integrations.
  • Conduct research on regulatory changes and update internal payroll policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and reconcile data for internal/external audits, including 401k and financial statements.
  • Perform technical QA/QC reviews on payroll data, identifying and correcting variances.
  • Support high-stakes projects, including year-end activities, tax reconciliations, and W-2 issuance.
  • Review quarterly tax packets and recommend system updates for tax compliance.
  • Respond to unemployment claims and other payroll-related inquiries.

Engagement

  • Collaborate with People, Culture & Equity, Finance, and IT teams to support payroll project implementation.
  • Provide analytical input on complex payroll dimensions to support organizational decision-making.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for escalated payroll inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Engage with external partners, including auditors, tax agencies, and payroll vendors, to ensure compliance and system optimizations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) required; FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) preferred.
  • 4-5 years of comprehensive payroll experience in high-complexity environments (multi-state, union).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Power User or SME in UKG (Pro/Ready) or similar HCM/Payroll systems.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel and Google Sheets for data reconciliation and audit schedules.
  • Experience with system implementations, UAT, and API integrations between Payroll and HRIS/Benefits platforms.

Pay

$75,000 – $80,000 a year
