Senior Payroll Specialist
Job Summary
About the role
The Payroll Specialist processes weekly payroll, prepares union fringe benefit reports, maintains pay and fringe benefit information in the system, responds to inquiries, inputs new and rehire employee information, performs general office duties, and handles other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Processing of weekly payroll, including data entry of time, checking for errors, and preparing paychecks and direct deposit files.
- Preparation of union fringe benefit reports; this includes compilation of data; preparation of check requests and report submission.
- Maintaining pay and fringe benefit information in computer using JDE and HCM.
- Timely responses to general questions, payroll issues, and Responding to EDD benefit/new hire inquires.
- Inputting new and rehire employee personnel information in the system.
- Performing general office duties, such as filing, copying, distribution, etc.
- Order stop payments and prepare manual checks.
- Research payroll job cost corrections.
- Preparing benefit reports and/or input of benefit deductions.
- Reconciling payroll prior to transmission and validating confirmed reports.
- Understanding proper taxation of employer paid benefits.
- Demonstrating a thorough knowledge of Federal and State wage and hour laws.
- Processing correct garnishment calculations and compliance.
- Performing compliances for unclaimed property payroll checks.
- Processing accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc.).
- Answering Human Resources and Accounting department questions related to payroll matters and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- General office duties, i.e., filing, copying, phones.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Payroll Manager.
Requirements
- Experience processing with and/or managing an in-house Payroll system, such as Oracle JD Edwards (vs. 3rd party Payroll vendor management, such as ADP or Paychex).
- 5+ years of previous Payroll experience.
- 5+ years of Data Entry experience into an accounting/payroll system.
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel required.
- Accurate 10-key by touch with 9000ks/min (10K+ keystrokes preferred) and demonstrated 99.9% data-entry accuracy.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail required.
- Must be able to investigate, document and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal errors.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 5+ years of Payroll experience.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel, accurate 10-key by touch, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and demonstrate initiative and perseverance.
Skills
- Knowledge of Federal and State wage and hour laws.
- Ability to process correct garnishment calculations and comply with tax regulations.
- Experience with payroll software such as JDE and HCM.
- Ability to research and resolve payroll issues.
Benefits
Competitive wages starting at $26.92 per hour and up to $33.65 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits may include health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Pay
$26.92 hour - $33.65 hour.
Schedule
Monday through Friday beginning between 6:00 am and 7:00 am and ending between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, with one hour for lunch. Eight hours per day is required, and occasional overtime may be necessary due to business needs.
