Role Summary
The Senior Payroll Manager oversees and executes all payroll operations for a multi-state workforce in the US and Canada, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely pay for employees. This role serves as a subject matter expert in Payroll and Time & Attendance, particularly with ADP.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-state workforce in the US and Canada (1,500+ employees), ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing of both weekly and bi-weekly payrolls.
- Own and administer ADP Payroll and ADP Time & Attendance platforms (e.g., Workforce Now, eTime, and Workforce Manager (upgrade in late 2026)).
- Oversee time & attendance processes including compliance, time capture, scheduling rules, and approvals.
- Ensure alignment between time & attendance data and payroll, resolving discrepancies prior to payroll close.
- Manage complex payroll elements such as bonuses, commissions, shift differentials, retro pay, wage garnishments, and leave programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage & hour laws, including overtime, meal/rest periods, and timekeeping requirements.
- Partner with HR, Total Rewards, and Operations on pay policies, timekeeping configurations, and workforce changes.
- Lead payroll and time & attendance audits; research and resolve issues and implement corrective actions.
- Develop, document, and enhance payroll and time & attendance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Manage and develop staff; provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Lead system implementations, upgrades, and integrations impacting payroll and time & attendance.
- Act as escalation point for payroll and time & attendance inquiries, ensuring strong employee and manager experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of progressive payroll and Time & Attendance experience supporting both an hourly and salaried workforce.
- 7+ years leading or managing a team of payroll professionals.
- Strong technical and analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of US and Canada payroll tax, wage & hour laws and compliance requirements.
- Proficient (advanced) in Microsoft Office Suite; strong focus in Excel spreadsheets and formulas.
