About the Role

The Senior Patient Access Representative will greet, schedule, meet, and register patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Answer and route telephone calls and messages
  • Coordinate insurance verifications and pre-authorizations
  • Maintain medical records and prepare charts/paperwork
  • Work effectively with insurance companies to obtain/verify pre-certification/authorization for services
  • Fax pre-certification request forms to insurance companies
  • Maintain files and security of confidential information utilizing host system to scan and input data as per established procedures
  • Verify medical insurance information and documents in scheduling/registration modules
  • Accurately enter and update patient data and other general data into the computer system
  • Perform patient intake, including insurance verification, notification of copays/patient liability, and confirmation of demographics
  • Maintain account work progress, including updating authorization logs, account referrals in EMR, authorization paperwork, and issue reports
  • Demonstrate knowledge of varied managed care insurance and regulatory guidelines
  • Monitor waiting area and communicate with clinical staff regarding patient readiness
  • Provide assistance to hospital staff as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Use, protect, and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
  • Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum necessary to perform assigned duties

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; College degree preferred
  • 1 year of office/clerical experience in a healthcare field required
  • Ability to understand/interpret documented clinical information and relay pertinent medical/clinical information to insurance companies
  • Exemplary customer service skills, including the ability to negotiate and problem-solve
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem-solving and creative skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-oriented approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction
  • Must possess a smartphone or electronic device capable of downloading applications for multifactor authentication and security purposes

Schedule

Every other Saturday/Sunday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM

Working Conditions

  • Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office setting
  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Minimal occupational exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, or musculoskeletal injuries
  • Operate office machines properly and in accordance with hospital safety standards
  • Ability to work in accordance with hospital safety standards

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to move around the work area
  • Sit and perform manual tasks
  • Operate tools and other office equipment such as computers, computer peripherals, and telephones
  • Extend arms, kneel, talk, and hear
  • Perform light lifting (up to 15 pounds)
