About the role

Oakland Baptist Church is a healthy, Christ-centered Southern Baptist congregation located in Monroe, North Carolina. For over half a century, God has faithfully used our church to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and serve our community. We are prayerfully seeking the man God has already chosen to become our next Senior Pastor as our current pastor retires at the end of December 2026 after fifteen years of faithful ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary spiritual leader of the church and work alongside our experienced and competent full-time church secretary.
  • Provide leadership in preaching, teaching, shepherding, evangelism, administration, and equipping church members for ministry while encouraging shared leadership among deacons, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
  • Lead the church in continued growth among children, youth, and young adults.
  • Lead the church in ministry opportunities through nearby schools.
  • Lead the church in partnerships with our African American and Hispanic church plants and community.
  • Lead the church in cooperation with our retiring pastor to help the transition for both.

Requirements

  • Meet the biblical qualifications for a pastor, including a clear call to pastoral ministry.
  • Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Be a faithful expositor of God's Word.
  • Be a man of prayer who depends upon the Holy Spirit.
  • Be a loving shepherd who genuinely enjoys ministering to people of every age.
  • Be a humble servant-leader who equips others for ministry.
  • Be a visionary leader who values both our heritage and the opportunities God is placing before us.
  • Be a passionate evangelist who desires to reach our growing and diverse community.
  • Be SBC (or affiliated) trained & educated, and committed to the Great Commission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in theology, divinity, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of pastoral experience.
  • Experience in leading a church through growth and change.
  • Experience in leading a church through new residential development and community partnerships.
  • Experience in leading a church through ministry opportunities at nearby schools.
  • Experience in leading a church through cooperation with other church plants and community partners.
  • Experience in leading a church through a visible location on a heavily trafficked road.

Skills

  • Biblical exegesis and preaching skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a diverse congregation.
  • Experience in leading a church through multiple challenges and opportunities.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community partners.

Pay

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

The Senior Pastor will work a standard Monday through Friday schedule, with occasional evenings and weekends required for ministry events and responsibilities.
