About the role
The Senior Packaging Engineering Program Manager supports packaging development across Lovevery's direct-to-consumer, retained, and retail packaging programs. The team focuses on structural packaging development, including pallet configurations, case packs, molded fiber, and press-fit corrugated solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners to make strategic front-end decisions within our sustainability framework that pass validation testing for different types of packaging.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of packaging specifications using software platforms such as ArtiosCAD, CAPE, TOPS, SolidWorks, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Collaborate with our product development and production design teams to prepare dielines for manufacturing.
- Consolidate and present complex technical details regarding how packaging programs are evolving to stakeholders on a consistent basis.
- Evaluate prototypes and samples from suppliers for quality and accuracy.
- Provide detailed feedback to suppliers to ensure programs are being launched on time and within budget.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in packaging engineering or a related field of study.
- Experience developing packaging for market-bound items that have become purchasable.
- Expert knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
- Expert knowledge of sustainable packaging design practices.
- Significant experience working with suppliers to evaluate packaging designs and optimize for manufacturing.
- Experience providing direct input to product profitability assessments to help determine fully burdened costs associated with freight and fulfillment.
- Experience designing packaging for products made of our most common materials, including wood, plastic, and cotton.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Proven understanding and ability to design for print production.
- Passion for packaging design and a basic understanding of macro design trends.
- A portfolio showing your ability to think visually and work through digital and physical iterations of an idea.
Minimum Software Qualifications
- High degree of proficiency in the following software platforms:
- ArtiosCAD
- CAPE
- TOPS
- SolidWorks
- Adobe Illustrator
Preferred Qualifications
- Complete understanding of toy safety standards related to both distribution and retained packaging.
- Technical engineering training.
- Proven understanding of CAD best practices.
- Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to execute safe engineering practices while maintaining the design intent of physical products.
- Proven understanding of engineering design principles.
- Proven understanding of Design for Manufacturing.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for toy manufacturing, including injection molding and wood manufacturing.
- Proven understanding of fastening/joining as it relates to part design.
