Senior Organizer - Suffolk County Regional Office

About the role

The Suffolk County Senior Organizer is a member of NYCLU’s Suffolk Regional Office and will report to the Suffolk County Regional Director. This role is part of NYCLU’s statewide Field Organizing Department, which engages in multi-layered advocacy efforts at both the state and local levels, including base-building organizing, public education, coalition building, leadership development, and lobbying of state and local lawmakers.

The Senior Organizer will focus on local organizing work in Suffolk County to improve democratic participation—engaging youth, parents, voters, candidates, and residents—and support efforts for change through integrated advocacy that empowers marginalized communities to hold school districts and local governments accountable.

We seek candidates with experience in grassroots campaigns, strong base-building and leadership development skills, and a commitment to building power for transformative policy and legislative change. Ideal candidates are strategic, passionate, collaborative, and passionate about engaging young people in leadership development and organizing around issues that impact them at the local and state level.

This is a Regular Full-Time/Exempt/Local 2320 Union position. NYCLU staff currently work in a hybrid model, with several in-person days required. The position is based in the Suffolk County Regional Office in Centereach, NY.

Responsibilities

• Lead local organizing efforts in Suffolk County to improve democratic participation among youth, parents, voters, candidates, and residents.
• Support integrated advocacy initiatives that empower marginalized communities to hold school districts and local governments accountable.
• Build reciprocal relationships with directly impacted communities, coalition partners, policymakers, nonprofit leaders, and school district administrators.
• Develop and implement grassroots campaigns focused on transformative policy and legislative change.
• Engage in base-building, public education, coalition building, leadership development, and lobbying at the state and local levels.
• Facilitate conversations, build consensus, and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
• Supervise interns and volunteers as needed.

Benefits

• Salary range: $65,000–$70,000.
