About the role
The Senior Organizer for Communications leads RTTC's owned media, digital organizing, and supporter engagement strategies. This role is responsible for growing and mobilizing RTTC’s audience through email, social media, digital campaigns, and rapid response moments—turning narrative into action and action into power. This role is execution-forward, data-informed, and campaign-centered. The person in this position will work closely with the Senior Organizer / Director for Narrative, Media & Movement Communications to ensure digital work is aligned with RTTC’s long-term narrative strategy.
Responsibilities
- Political and Organizational Leadership (10%)
- Contribute to developing politically grounded assessments, proposals, and strategic priorities
- Help build alliance-wide coherence and alignment with both staff and members around strategy and priorities
- Reflect a commitment to praxis
- Surface cross-team or cross-department issues to bring to the leadership team
- Staff Development and Support (10%)
- Assess staff development needs for supervisees
- Orient to supervision as an ongoing practice, identifying areas for growth and development
- Be an accessible resource for staff with grounded solutions and organizational context
- Model effective, principled communication and grounded responses to conflict mediation
- Earned Media Strategy (5%)
- Support RTTC’s earned media strategy in alignment with campaign priorities
- Co-develop and manage a member organization speakers bureau and spokesperson training infrastructure
- The Homes for All Campaign Communications (20%)
- Lead the development and execution of communications strategies that advance the national Homes for All campaign and elevate its visibility
- Collaborate closely with Campaign and Member Engagement teams to amplify tenant voices and build a mass renter movement
- Craft messaging and inform digital content and media outreach that highlight campaign priorities, including rent control and social housing
- Monitor and respond to public and media narratives to ensure the campaign’s goals are clearly represented and strategically advanced
- Manage and maintain a story bank featuring member organizations and leaders to support ongoing narrative needs
- Align the Homes for All campaign narrative with the alliance’s long-term strategy, mid-term strategic objectives, and short-term campaign goals
- Membership Communications (15%)
- Lead communications to RTTC Alliance member organizations via monthly all-member call, newsletters, email campaigns, social media updates, and WhatsApp member threads to ensure a coherent and compelling narrative across RTTC Membership Communications channels
- Collaborate with the Membership Engagement Team to create a coordinated and coherent approach to member communications to deepen RTTC members understanding and ownership over alliance-wide campaigns & interventions
- Narrative Analysis & Strategy (10%)
- Support narrative analysis to assess opposition framing and narrative power
- Co-develop tools and best practices for evaluating RTTC’s narrative impact
- Create narrative power maps for priority translocal campaigns
- Coordinate messaging guidance and framing recommendations
- Training & Capacity Building (10%)
- Develop and deliver communications trainings, curriculum, and tools
- Test, assess, and document scalable communications support models
- Resource Development (5%)
- Support narrative strategy development with AD and RSD team to help meet fundraising goals
- Support the development of fundraising communications assets such as social media, email, graphics etc. for sustainer campaign drive and anniversary gala
- Communications Team (15%)
- Support agenda development and facilitation of Communications Team meetings
- Co-lead the RTTC Communications Committee
- Cook up closely with National Organizer of Communications to align narrative and execution
- Advise on rapid response moments and campaign framing
- Finalize work area work plans
- Plan for team meetings
Qualifications
- 7+ years experience in earned media, narrative strategy, or movement communications
- Strong political analysis and strategic framing skills
- Experience training spokespeople and facilitating communications workshops
- Pioneered ability to build and manage media relationships
- Proven ability to break down complex topics into compelling, digestible narratives
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Ability to write and speak a second language, preferably Spanish
- Experience working in housing justice and/or in an alliance or coalition
- Experience in crisis communications
