About the Role

This role will be responsible for performing day-to-day database administrative tasks for the different NASA NSPIRES Oracle databases under the NRESS II contract and supporting the teams that use them. Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the NSPIRES system prior to applying. This position is approved for a local remote schedule, but the individual should be flexible for in-person meetings in the Arlington, VA office if required.

Responsibilities

  • Experience with backup, restore, and recovery of databases including the use of RMAN (Oracle Recovery Manager).
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Work with Oracle 19G, Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, and MySQL.
  • Create Oracle databases according to established parameters.
  • Perform upgrades of the database and software to new release levels.
  • Manage storage structures, users, and security of the database.
  • Manage database objects such as tables, indexes, and views.
  • Backup the database and perform recovery operations when necessary.
  • Monitor the state of the database and take preventive or corrective action as required.
  • Monitor and tune database performance.
  • Own, track, and resolve database-related incidents and requests.
  • Fulfill requests and resolve incidents within service-level-agreements (SLAs).
  • Review service-related reports (e.g., database backups, maintenance, monitoring) daily to ensure issues are identified and resolved within SLAs.
  • Respond to database-related alerts and escalations, diagnose and report critical errors, and work with Oracle Support Services.
  • Manage, maintain, and back up a MySQL database.
  • Write scripts in Perl, SQL, and the Linux OS.
  • Use MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and SQL Developer.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and documentation skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field (years toward degree can substitute for experience).
  • 10 years of general experience, including 5 years of experience with DBMS, systems design and analysis, operating system software, and internal and data manipulation language.
  • Eligible candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).
  • Applicants will be subject to a government background investigation.
  • This position requires working with IT systems that contain export-controlled information.

Pay

The projected compensation range for this position is $135,000 to $155,000 (annualized USD). Salary is determined by factors including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements.

Schedule

This position is approved for a local remote schedule, with flexibility required for occasional in-person meetings in the Arlington, VA office.
