SENIOR OR PRINCIPAL PLANNER

About the role

The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior or Principal Planner to join their Planning Department. This position provides day-to-day project leadership, ensures timely processing and completion of development review applications, and leads interdisciplinary project teams on complex planning initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provides day-to-day project leadership
• Ensures timely processing and completion of development review applications
• Demonstrates continuous and measurable efforts to improve operations and procedures
• Interprets and administers provisions of Town’s Land Management Ordinance development-type applications
• Led interdisciplinary project teams on complex planning initiatives
• Makes decisions, clarifies issues according to the LMO and Comprehensive Plan and answers inquiries
• Establish ongoing relationships with Town staff, the news media, the general public, and community, state, and national organizations

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid Driver’s license
• AICP certified preferred
